Dental health comes first and foremost from you! Part of it will have been handed down genetically from your parents as to whether you have strong healthy gums or not. Part of it will depend upon the environment you grew up in. Your bacterial ecology is largely seeded from your parents. Your teeth may have been reinforced with fluoride if you grew up in a fluoridated area. Your dental habits are usually taught from your parents and reinforced by them. By the time you turn 18 and are out on your own, your dental health will have established itself as either excellent, shabby, or poor. If parents can give children the best start in life with great dental habits, it can set their dental health for life.
